Delrin is the primary specification for precision electrical insulator components. Delrin's dielectric strength (~500 V/mil), dimensional stability, and excellent machinability make it the right material for terminal bodies, connector components, switchgear insulators, and any electrical application requiring tight tolerances and consistent electrical properties. Delrin machines cleanly to the fine threads and close tolerances that electrical hardware requires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Delrin (acetal homopolymer) has a dielectric strength of approximately 500 V/mil — sufficient for a broad range of low and medium-voltage electrical insulator applications. Specific voltage requirements for the application should be compared to the material properties at the design stage. For high-voltage applications exceeding Delrin's dielectric range, Pepco can advise on alternative materials.

Yes. Delrin threads cleanly and holds thread form well — it is one of the better-performing engineering plastics for threaded components. Fine machine threads (M3 and smaller, or equivalent imperial sizes) in Delrin terminal components are standard machining work. Provide the thread specification and dimensional requirements at inquiry.

Standard (natural) UHMW is electrically non-conductive and is used as an insulating material in lower-voltage applications. Note that Tivar Antistatic grades of UHMW are specifically formulated to dissipate static charge — these grades are conductive and should not be specified for electrical insulation applications. Confirm the grade at inquiry for any electrical insulation application.

Yes. OEM production runs of custom electrical insulator components — terminal bodies, support insulators, switchgear components — are produced from drawings to the dimensional and material specifications required. Both prototype quantities and production runs are within Pepco's scope.
